The Friendly Loaf Bakery
For my portfolio, I had the pleasure of designing and developing a bespoke website for The Friendly Loaf Bakery, a popular artisan bakery based in Bury St Edmunds. The goal was to create a digital home that reflects the bakery’s warm, community-focused ethos while offering practical tools to help streamline operations and enhance customer experience.
A key feature of the site is the Click and Collect online shop, allowing customers to pre-order fresh bread, pastries, and seasonal bakes. This system not only reduces queues during busy mornings but also gives customers the assurance that their favorite items will be waiting for them. I built a simple, intuitive ordering interface with mobile-first design in mind, making the process smooth across all devices.
Another major component is the online baking class booking system. The Friendly Loaf regularly hosts hands-on workshops, and the website makes it easy for visitors to view upcoming sessions, book their place, and receive automated confirmations. This integration has helped grow community engagement while easing the administrative load on the bakery team.
Throughout the site, we’ve highlighted what makes the Friendly Loaf special, from their sourdough techniques and local ingredients to behind-the-scenes glimpses of the baking process. High-quality imagery, a welcoming tone, and a responsive design work together to create a site that not only informs but also captures the heart and personality of this much-loved local business.
